HR should not commit these common mistakes

07.27.2010 · Posted in All, HR

Though an HR walks in a way as if he/she rules the organization! But one must not forget that “To Err is Human” and an HR is a common human being. But the graveness of his/her mistake is quite great as it is irreversible in most cases. The most dangerous element of these mistakes is that one usually doesn’t notice them until the damage has been already done.
Some of the general HR mistakes have been listed below:
• Forgetting to recognize and suitably reward affirmative, active, high performance employees.
• Inflating the performance appraisal of an average or poor employee.
• Not accurately documenting performance, problems, policy violations, and complaints of the employees.
• Not knowing what the competitors are offering and not keeping the compensation and benefit package in line with the industry standards.
• Getting caught up in technical details and language when they’re drafting policies or negotiating new contracts and thus making things confusing to the employees.
• Keeping employees in the dark and not providing an explanation for doing something; say for example when one announces a change or draft new policies.
• Not giving adequate chance for feedback in the communication plan.
• Last but not least, remember the golden rule: treat everyone in your organization as you would like to be treated yourself.

  1. Nice Post. Well I do not agree with the second point “Inflating the performance appraisal of an average or poor employee”. I believe first deserve then desire. but really liked the point which compensate the above point which is “Not knowing what the competitors are offering and not keeping the compensation and benefit package in line with the industry standards”. Great work.
